Return Of The ‘Rural Oscars’

The Countryside Alliance Awards, also known as the ‘Rural Oscars’ are returning for the 14th year and remain open for nominations.

Considered the gold standard among rural businesses in England and Wales, the awards receive thousands of nominations each year and reward skills, produce, tradition, enterprise, and people. The annual celebrations are driven by public nominations, offering customers the chance to tell the Countryside Alliance why their favourite businesses are worthy of national acclaim.

Judges also take community stories into account when ranking the businesses – looking for those that go beyond the call of duty across the five categories; Local Food and Drink, Village Shop/ Post Office, Butchers, Rural Enterprises and Pubs.

CA Awards Director, Sarah Lee said: “These awards are a fantastic way to applaud out rural businesses for all the hard work they do to help keep our local communities alive. It’s such an honour to be able to recognise the rural businesses the represent the best in Britain’s entrepreneurial spirit and who do a great job to promote our beautiful countryside. I would urge everyone who wants to support their local business and communities to nominate them and give them the boost they so richly deserve.”

Nominations will close on 9 December 2018 with regional champions to be named by May 2019. The final will then be held in June at the House of Lords. The overall champions will be chosen by a panel which includes Waitrose Food Editor and Masterchef Judge, William Sitwell, Philip Johnston, Assistant Editor of the Daily Telegraph, Emma Penny, of Farmers Guardian, Peter Gott, founder of Borough Market, Sally Merison, Baroness Mallalieu and Countryside Alliance CEO, Tim Bonner.

Nominations can be cast more than once in any or all categories, and can be made online at countryside-alliance.org

Please note: Businesses in Scotland are not eligible for the Countryside Alliance Awards.
