The crown prosecution service is consulting antis before carrying out prosecution, it has been revealed.
The League Against Cruel Sports will be consulted by the CPS before it decides to pursue the case against three members of the Devon and Somerset Staghounds. The Countryside Alliance has asked the attorney general for an explanation. The members of the Staghounds, huntsman Donald Summersgill, masters David Greenwood and Rupert Andrews, have pleaded not guilty to all charges relating to allegations of two Hunting Act offences in September and October 2013.
The Countryside Alliance were disappointed to hear LACS would be consulted on the case; Tim Bonner, director of campaigns for the Countryside Alliance, said: “Relying on the advice of a pressure group like the LACS is quite disgraceful and can only lead to further abuse of the criminal justice system and waste of public money.”
