Following the publication of the Value of Shooting report, Gun Trade News asked the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for a comment on the benefits shooting provides to the rural economy and environment.

This is what we received, attributed to a DEFRA spokesperson:

“The shooting industry plays an important part in the rural economy, bringing benefits to local businesses and creating employment opportunities. Those working in this business also carry out vital work in helping to look after and manage the countryside to improve our natural environment.”

DEFRA said none of its ministers would make a statement.
