Facebook is in discussion to amend policies regarding gun-related pages.
The social network giant has been under fire after concerns were voiced that it enables illegal gun-trade online. The result of this discussion could mean that gun-related groups and pages will be more rigorously screened to block online transactions between private sellers.
In the meantime, Facebook have reiterated that it is not a trading site and that any illegal activity should be reported, but no policies have been revised. Facebook users have been finding ways to dodge the current policies preventing firearms trade however, which has drawn the attention of several powerful anti-firearms groups.
Mayors Against Illegal Guns and the civic group Moms Demand Action have joined forces to pressure Facebook to “get out of the gun business”, and their petition to ban gun transactions on Facebook and Instagram has almost 100,000 signatures.
