British Shooting Show organisers have warned exhibitors that scam emails are being sent out soliciting payment for accommodation on the weekend of the show.
Organisers have advised the gun trade that Convention Housing Authority, which has offered exhibitors rooms at nearby hotels including the Days Inn Warwick South, Holiday Inn Express Warwick and Best Western Falstaff, does not have blocks of rooms at set negotiated rates, and is in fact adding extra fees to the room rates, amounting to more than 25 per cent above the market rate.
On top of this, the BSS has cautioned, CHA’s cancellation and payment terms are unusually severe.
The company is based in Las Vegas, and though it quotes a London-based phone number, calling the number results in the call being diverted to the USA.
A spokesperson for BGC Events, which is officially licensed by the show to organise accommodation, said: “The scam involving booking accommodation for the British Shooting Show is still going on and it is possible you may receive telephone calls from them in addition to receiving an email similar to the one below. The show organisers strongly recommend that you do not get involved with this company as they will charge you more than the going rate for accommodation, whilst the payment and cancellation terms will be more stringent.
“Contrary to the wording in the email , there are plenty of accommodation options available.”
If you have been contacted by Convention Housing Authority, please let BGC know by emailing ben@bgcevents.co.uk.
