American auction company Rock Island has marked 50 years since the John F Kennedy assassination with a unique auction lot: one of Kennedy’s signature rocking chairs, accompanied by some of the Kennedys’ personal letters and photographs
The chair was presented as a retirement gift to Kennedy family cook Nellie McGrail in 1994, and now it goes under the hammer at Rock Island’s sale in Illinois on 6-8 December.
It’s expected to achieve a high hammer price – rocking chairs sold from Jacqueline Kennedy’s possessions in 1996 reached prices of $442,500 and $453,300.
