Leading shooting, conservation and gamekeeping organisations have confirmed their support for the UK Game Fair.
The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), the Countryside Alliance, the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) and the Gamekeepers’ Welfare Trust will be taking stands at the three-day event this July at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire.
The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) is the UK’s largest shooting organisation, with over 144,500 members throughout Britain. Founded in 1908, BASC works to promote shooting sports, defend shooters’ rights and lead the way in campaigning at the highest level for shooters’ interests.
On top of this, many successful BASC schemes – such as Green Shoots, Taste of Game and its head-measuring service run in conjunction with the British Deer Society (BDS) and Sporting Rifle magazine – make a real difference to conservation efforts and the public’s perception of shooting.
The Countryside Alliance will also be joining BASC at Stoneleigh in July. The Alliance boasts over 100,000 members and campaigns for the rights and interests of rural businesses and residents across the UK, encompassing a great range of important issues from lead ammunition and firearms legislation to rural broadband accessibility and agricultural initiatives.
The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) has also confirmed its attendance. The charity is a leader in scientific research, promoting game and wildlife management as an essential part of conservation efforts. The GWCT employs over 100 staff and runs over 60 research projects, many in collaboration with prestigious universities and other conservation organisations.
“We are delighted to be attending the UK Game Fair,” said GWCT chief executive, Mrs Teresa Dent CBE. “It is wonderful that those with a passion for game will be able to meet at Stoneleigh once again. We will be there to hear visitors’ views, share our scientific research and promote best conservation practice.”
BASC, the GWCT and the Countryside Alliance will be joined by the Gamekeepers’ Welfare Trust (GWT), which has confirmed it will be at the 2016 UK Game Fair.
Formed in 1992, the charity is dedicated to the support of gamekeepers, stalkers, and ghillies through times of hardship. Whether that involves health, housing, employment or anything else, the GWT has a range of services that can help, all of them tailored to the unique needs of countryside workers.
Helen Benson explained more about the charity’s message: “We’re there for any gamekeeper, ghillie, stalker and their families in any way we can. We want to make sure everybody in the industry knows who we are, where we are and how to reach us.”
Now visitors to the UK Game Fair can meet with teams from BASC, Countryside Alliance and the GWCT and GWT, and lean more about the important work these associations undertake. The involvement of these major organisations looks to set to solidify the UK Game Fair’s position as 2016’s premier fieldsports event.
