After the responses to the Sun ’s article ‘Massacre guns on sale in the UK’ from the shooting community, the Press Complaints Commission has got involved, resulting in the Sun correcting misleading information given in the article.
Organisations including the NRA and Sportsman’s Association contacted the Sun to draw attention to the perceived falsehoods it had printed, centring on its assertion that guns such as a .223 AR-15 were legal in the UK.
The newspaper said in its correction: “We would like to clarify that these replica guns are scaled down versions of the originals, requiring .22 ammunition rather than the more powerful .223 calibre.”
