The USA’S National Shooting Sports Federation is looking for a new company to manage the SHOT show, the world’s largest firearms trade show, after it announced it had dropped Reed Exhibitions, which had run the show for 30 years.
This comes after Reed made the decision to ban assault rifles and high-capacity magazines from its Eastern Outdoor show in Harrisburg. This led to a widespread industry boycott of the show that ultimately saw it cancelled for 2013.
In response to Reed’s assault rifle ban, the NSSF said: “[We have] been in intense, frank discussions with Reed Exhibitions management in an effort to reverse this unacceptable decision. These discussions reached an impasse.
“NSSF is in no way affiliated with, nor does it participate in or exhibit at the Eastern Outdoor show in any way.
“Because of Reed’s recent actions, NSSF is considering all options regarding the management of future SHOT shows.”
Since then, speculation over SHOT’s future has been rife – and NSSF’s decision to end Reed’s contract, announced in a SHOT show blog post, finally brings it to a conclusion. In a statement online, the NSSF said Reed’s assault rifle ban had been “in conflict with NSSF’s mission to serve the shooting sports industry” and that it was “actively engaged in the process of identifying a new show management company.”
