The traditional Gleneagles hotel have announced that it is to offer game bird shooting packages for guests who wish to experience the thrill of the sport.
Guests will be accompanied by the head game keeper, as well as a shooting instructor, who will pass on their knowledge and experience on a variety of species and styles of shooting on offer.
Gleneagles, and its neighbouring estates, can offer walked-up or driven shooting as well as traditional grouse shoots. Other species that may be shot, depending on the season, are red-legged partridge, soaring pheasant, wild mallard, and the elusive woodcock.
Included with a luxury picnic and basic clothing, the day is enhanced with Gleneagles dedicated shooting school to help prepare guests. Clay targets simulate each of the game birds and the instructors are on hand to help guests get accustomed to the types of bird they might see.
Prices start from £895 per person (in a team of four), whilst game birds are subject to the following seasons:
Grouse: 12 August – 10 December
Duck: 1 September – 31 January
Pheasant: 1 October – 1 February
Partridge: 1 September – 1 February
Woodcock: 1 September – 31 January
