The 2017 Countryside Alliance Awards, also known as the Rural Oscars, whittled down over 11,000 nominations into five category winners on 25 April.

Environment Secretary Gove was part of a judging panel which included; Waitrose Food Editor and Masterchef Judge, William Sitwell, Emma Penny of the Farmers Guardian, and Countryside Alliance CEO, Tim Bonner. In addition to the five main awards, the Game Champion Award represented the growing interest in game meat; the winner was named as Blagdon Farm Shop in Northumberland.

Following the 13th annual award ceremony Gove commented: “The Countryside Alliance does a brilliant job standing up for rural businesses and supporting a working countryside. The winners deserve all our congratulations!”
