The next generation of shooting was on show at the British Schools and Young Shots Championship on Saturday 4 May, which culminated as Josh Bennion was crowned High Gun at event hosted at Atkin Grant & Lang.

Smashing a full set of 50 clays on the red course, Josh shot admirably to beat some of the nation’s most promising young shots including last year’s High Gun, Alfie Tibbles.

He wins a prize bundle including a Webley o/u, Seeland clothing, BASC and Atkin Grant & Lang membership, and the opportunity to become a contributor to Clay Shooting magazine.

The win caps a successful season for Josh, who has already competed as a Junior in the UK and English Opens, all while studying for his A-Levels. He remarked: “I’m pleased with the 50, especially with the wind and the rain. The targets were steady, and with scores of 49 and 48 just behind, you’ve got to hit them all.”

Meanwhile Tom Owen was the overall winner of the blue course, while Ami Hedgecock was crowned the top ladies individual. Reece Powell triumphed on the BASC course for U14s.

In the team events, Bloxham School completed a successful one-two. Bloxham A fought off tough competition on the red course, scoring 212 ex-250 while the B team took pole position on the blue course, hitting 204.

Atkin Grant & Lang hosted the event, to great acclaim from competitors. AGL Director, Charlie Stewart-Wood said: “Overall we were really pleased. We have had some great feedback and some great scores.

“Each course shot really well and there was an incredible 50 straight on the Red course, which with the wind is an incredible achievement.

“We would be delighted to welcome BSYS back – it’s been a real challenge to set three interesting courses to suit all age groups but we’ve done a great job.”
