The Executive Director of the GTA, Simon West OBE, has taken on an additional role. Effective immediately, Simon is the new Master of the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers.

Simon’s appointment was confirmed at a dinner held on 7 November at Mansion House, where over 250 collected liverymen and guests witnessed the previous Master, Rowlie McBeath, hand over the Master’s badge of office and keys to the Proof House.

The Worshipful Company of Gunmakers was established in 1673, and still performs a statutory duty to test and regulate the safety of firearms via the proof process.

Simon said: “It is a huge honour to be appointed Master for the coming year. The Company has a long history at the heart of the gun trade and is rare among City livery companies, doing what it was set up to do by King Charles I. We still prove guns and we provide support to the craft through bursaries for apprentices and qualifications for gunmaking and gunsmithing. I further intend to use this year to represent the gun trade’s interests at the highest levels. Banking, licensing, transport and politics are all on my agenda.”
