Leading gun trade wholesaler and distributor John Rothery Wholesale has appointed Sean O’Driscoll as managing director.

Bob Rothery hands over to Sean O’Driscoll

Sean has built up a wealth of experience within the shooting trade, previously as managing director of publishing company David Hall Publishing—where he also ran the Tackle & Guns trade magazine and Tackle & Guns Trade Show for more than 20 years—and, more recently, as an area representative for John Rothery Wholesale, covering the south of the country.

“I am delighted to be offered this position at John Rothery Wholesale in what is a very exciting time for the company. I have worked closely with it over many years and since joining in 2018 have gained a real insight into its relationship with the retail trade, which I have to say is as strong as it always has been.

“The Rothery business is built on service, honesty, loyalty, empathy and an understanding of retail needs. It’s an ethos embedded in the company and one that I will follow,” says Sean.

“John Rothery is celebrating its 50th year as a wholesaler, and I am truly excited to build on the potential it still has,” he adds.

Bob Rothery, who is now stepping back from the day-to-day running of the business, said: “JRW has grown from modest beginnings to a robust and healthy establishment. I am delighted to hand the reigns to Sean as MD, he echoes the standards of the company and will exploit any opportunities that exist.”

Sean has been in the position for a few months already, and the official hand-over date was 1 August. “There has been a lot to learn over the past year and the pandemic has made it somewhat of a challenge, but I have been grateful that Bob has always been on hand to offer assistance and guidance. Although he will not be around on a daily basis it is of great reassurance that he will never be far away,” confirms Sean.
