Clay shooting’s introduction to the Paralympic Games has suffered a setback as it emerged that Paris 2024 won’t include Para Trap in its event line-up.
The IPC revealed the list of sports and disciplines still being considered for inclusion, and Para Trap was not among them. Among the reasons cited for this were that it is not widely and regularly practiced in enough countries (32 is the stipulated minimum), and has no quadrennial competition programme in place.
Airgun shooting has long had a place in the Paralympics but shotgun shooting has failed to break through, though British Shooting quickly said it would continue its efforts to promote Para Trap and address the issues the IPC specified.
Para Trap will be included in the first combined rifle, pistol and shotgun World Cup in the UAE in March, and British Shooting said it would “continue to support World Shooting Para Sport in its efforts to increase participation and create an effective competition structure.”
