The leader of the Scottish Parliament, Humza Yousaf, has announced that the coalition between his party, The Scottish Nationalist Party, and the Green Party in Scotland is over.

Known as the Bute House agreement, the power-sharing coalition between the two sides has been in place since August 2021, and is considered by many in the Scottish shooting and conservation community to have lead to a raft of unwelcome initiatives such as the licensing of grouse moors, the control of muirburn, and the ban on hunting for mountain hare.

The current minister for Agriculture is Jim Fairlie of the SNP, a former Perthshire sheep farmer, who is reckoned to be a safe pair of hands at the department, he has only been in place since February this year.
