BASC counters licence changes

BASC continues to oppose last-minute changes to the General Licence in Scotland, to come into force on 1 January, that will allow forces to revoke licences where they have “reason to believe” illegal killing of wild birds has taken place.

Describing the legislation as “unacceptable and open to abuse,” BASC has criticised the decision to grant civil servants the legal power to affect estates’ rights and livelihoods without having first established a criminal offence.

An original consultation on the law change has been labelled “too short, too late and containing poorly developed proposals.” BASC has called for a full consultation before any legislation is enacted.
