Kent-based JJ Vickers, the UK distributor for FLIR and Leapers products, has been placed in administration but says it will continue trading “as normal”.

The distributor, founded in 1887, lost distribution rights of Bushnell optics to the shooting market at the start of this year, as Edgar Brothers took on the brand.

But it retained distribution to the mass consumer and nature observation markets, as well as shoring up its distribution line-up with the new acquisition of Leapers.

In spite of this, the company has had to call in the administrators, apparently in response to its mass consumer distribution channel taking an unfortunate hit.

The company’s official statement said: “Due to the demise of Jessops, JJ Vickers and Sons Ltd are having to restructure their business. They are continuing to trade, as normal, during that time.”

Administrator Chantrey Vellacott DFK said the company would continue to trade under its control, and that it would inform creditors of its proposals for the administration in the coming weeks.
