A new public consultation regarding banning the carriage of guns and their component parts is expected to be released by Royal Mail within the next few weeks.

This one-month consultation will again give the shooting world the opportunity to respond about the carriage of Section one and two firearms and some Section one firearms components. BASC said it will notify its members when the consultation begins and give a briefing on how to respond, hoping for the same show of strength of feeling that led Royal Mail to change its tone on a potential gun ban in the first place.

This follows Royal Mail’s decision in December 2012 to continue to allow low-powered airguns, their components and accessories, and imitation, antique and deactivated firearms to be carried in the post. As of 14 January, it has started permitting the transportation of airgun and airsoft pellets in the post.
