Rural business outlook improves

The rural economy is finally in recovery, according to the latest barometer of rural business performance and expectations.

The Rural Economy Index, developed by Smiths Gore and the CLA, reports that the recovery has spread from non-farming businesses into the farming sector – more farming businesses reported rising sales than falling for the first time in a year.

Non-agricultural businesses continue to recover and expect growth, with expected profits, investment and employment for the next 12 months all up.

In the non-agricultural sector, the report showed a net balance of 62 per cent positivity regarding business performance projections for the next year.
