Up in the air

Scotland’s consultation on airgun licensing is currently underway. The Scottish government will consider responses from people living outside of Scotland, meaning that it is important that every member of the shooting community who lives in the UK responds to the proposal by the 15 March deadline.

BASC director of firearms Bill Harriman said: “BASC is firmly opposed to the introduction of licensing in Scotland. The proposal by the Scottish government to license low powered airguns is both flawed and disproportionate. Airgun-related crime is falling in Scotland and their use is well regulated by existing laws. This ill-considered scheme will put further pressure on an already overstretched police service with little effect on the criminal misuse of airguns.”

BASC has released a draft response on its website as guidance for respondents and will be issuing a response itself to the Scottish government before the consultation deadline.
